  • Another exciting day for Pipeline today as we went to the Men’s Final at Wimbledon to witness one of the game’s great players, Rafael Nadal, or Rafa as he’s affectionately known, give a powerful, precise and purposeful performance to win the tournament in 3 straight sets.

He was up against another ‘Tom’ – alas, not one of us but the Czech no. 12 seed, Tomas Berdych on the next step of his giant-killing run having knocked out 2 of the big favourites Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. We would have loved to see Tomas take a set, but it wasn’t his day as Rafa put on a masterclass of pressure and came out literally bursting with purpose to force the errors and make the winners that saw him through relatively easily but not without a fight.

There’s loads we could write about why Rafa rocked, but to be honest I’m still blown away by the speed and power of the game we saw. The subtle mental shifts of power, the delicate touches mixed up with the extreme power-play and above all the relentlessness of wanting to win shown by both the players. Very male, very competitive, very intense, but incredible to watch and mesmerising to experience….

Given we’ve been known to play the odd game or two, this has re-ignited our passion for a bit of amateur tennis competition, so if anyone out there fancies a game, whether singles against Mr Rowley (our resident champ) or doubles against the deadly ‘Tom’ duo, then please do get in touch. We’re well up for starting an inter-agency summer tournament so drop us a line if you’re up for it…
